This Week’s Star Potter is…

Caitlin!!

In our occasional ‘Star Potter’ series, we interviewed Weekend Potter’s Wheel Course participant Caitlin by asking her three simple questions. Here’s what she had to say about her weekend spent behind the potter’s wheel.

Q1 What brought you here today?

“I’m here for my 30th Birthday surprise from my boyfriend!” Caitlin literally had no idea what she was doing our Potter’s Wheel Weekend Course until arriving in our pottery car park…. well done to Mike for holding a secret so well!

Q2 What was your favourite bit?

” I enjoyed splatting my pots with paint at the end. So nice and they match my leggings!!”

Q3 What do you do when you’re not making pottery?

“I am a archer and I shoot arrows in my spare time”.

Well, it turns out Caitlin is rather good at the shooting arrows thing:

Having trained at Royal Leamington Spa Archery Club. Caitlin McCarthy represented Team GB in both Korea & Moscow as well as the Europa Cup! So as a result, she has travelled to many interesting places and done some wonderful things! One archery related opportunity also springs to mind. In 2016, Caitlin found herself doing a T.V. advert in South Africa for Bridgestone tyres. In order to demonstrate the toughness of its DriveGuard tyres, Bridgestone hired professional archers to puncture the tires and then drove on them for 50 miles. You can find the whole commercial on YouTube.

A picture of a row of 4 archers in an empty sports stadium. They are wearing red sports tops and black trousers. The arccers are standing in a row with their arrows poised. Caitlin is at the fornt of the photo.

Another brush with T.V. stardom was “popping arrows with Matt Baker” on BBC’s Country File, but that’s another story. Amazing where a skill can take you!

What a star! It was great to meet you Caitlin and your leggings inspired pot is brilliant!
