Clay
Clay is an amazing material, millions of years old and no matter how dry or waterlogged it becomes, it’s infinitely recyclable. Firing a pot in a kiln uses a lot of energy which inevitably has a detrimental effect on the environment.
If you attend our brilliant Introduction to the Potter’s Wheel Class, you’ll be offered the choice to recycle your clay pots so all you take away is your new found skill, fabulous memories and a huge smile!

Sustainable way of working
At the end of the session you may (or may not!) have two pots to show for your efforts. We offer you three choices:
- Recycle your pots so the clay can be enjoyed again and again and again!
- If you cannot bare to consign your pots to the recycling pile you can choose your favourite pot to take home and air-dry.
- If you’ve made a cracker and want to turn it into a permanent reminder of your time with us, firing costs £20 per pot. If you can’t collect, you may need to consider P+P at £5 per pot.
The tower of learning!

A pile of enjoyed pots waiting to be wedged and kneaded into a soft lump, ready to go again.
We encourage our Intro class to add their pots to the pile at the end of the session. This is almost as much fun as throwing the pots on the wheel. As the tower gets higher, so does the risk of toppling. It’s like a game of soft Jenga!
If you are here for our Day or Weekend Potter’s Wheel Course, you’ll make made loads and loads of pots, far more than you’ll ever need. The majority of which will be recycled. That said, we ask you to select your favourite one or two to keep as a memento. They are left with us to be fired, glazed and posted out at no extra cost. If you can’t make up your mind what to keep, extra pots can be purchased on the day for an additional fee.
