Our next theme is…..

Hedgehog Tea Light Holders!

When?…..

Tuesday 17th February at 11 am

Join our Clay Modelling session during February half term 2026. Come and create your very own ’Hedgehog Tea Light Holder’. These characterful pottery critters will add a whimsical and warm glow to your house or garden! Cute!!

A poster advertisement. It says the title 'Family Clay Modelling' and the date underneath saying Tuesday 17th February. There is a photograph of a pottery hedgehog being held up by somebodies hand. The pot has a modelled hedgehog face and texture body. It is bowl shaped to allow space for a tea light. Underneath the pottery is some text that says in large letters, Hedgehog tealights.

The reason and inspiration behind this workshop….

Julia & Dorset Hedgehog Rescue

Back in November Julia returned to us for a Potter’s Wheel Weekend Course, having enjoyed an Intro Class with us in the summer. We know this is wonderful news in itself, but there’s more….

As we got to know Julia, we found out that she is involved with a wildlife rehabilitation charity called The Dorset Hedgehog Rescue

And here’s what they do:

“The hedgehogs that are in our care come to us because they are poorly, injured, underweight or orphaned. We help hundreds of hedgehogs every year and have a high success rate in the treatment and rehabilitation of hedgehogs and releasing them back to the wild. Our rescue centre is open 24/7, 365 days to care for all sick, injured and orphaned hedgehogs.”

She told us about a particular hedgehog, close to her heart, the centre named Freddie. He was in such a bad way that they didn’t know if he would survive the night. He is now fit and healthy, he has been a real success story!

The decline in hedgehog populations

“Hedgehogs are one of the few wild mammals we sometimes encounter up close and are a firm favourite of the British public. Sadly, we’re seeing concerning population declines across the UK. Between 2000 – 2014 hedgehog populations declined by over half in our countryside and nearly a third in our cities and suburbs.”

They’re now considered “vulnerable to extinction” in Great Britain.

So there you go! It’s down to Julia and her wonderful ‘Freddie the Hedgehog Tea Light Holder’ that we have felt inspired to continue with this wonderful project. We hope you feel inspired to join us too!

How it works

On the day you will have a clay modelling demonstration and then make your hedgehog with guidance as and when required. You’ll have the opportunity to paint your masterpiece there and then with coloured slip. Your creation will need to dry thoroughly before it goes in the kiln. This whole process takes 4-6 weeks. Once your work has been fired and glazed you’ll be contacted via email to let you know they are ready to collect/on their way.
Please allow1.5 hours for your experience (under 12’s to be accompanied by a adult)
Price: £40 per person (includes materials, glazes and firing)

We look forward to seeing you at the studio!
