We thought it would be helpful to share our most frequently asked questions regarding our fabulous and very popular Introduction to the Potter’s Wheel class.
FAQs. Potter’s Wheel Introduction Class
Where are we located?
Eastnor pottery is located in the idyllic village of Eastnor on the Eastnor Castle Estate, Herefordshire near the south end of The Malvern Hills. Our nearest town is Ledbury – historic streets lined with brilliant independent shops, artisan cafes and restaurants. If it’s a city break you’re after, we’re equidistant to Gloucester, Worcester and Hereford. Great walks and dramatic scenery make this an idyllic destination for a creative break.

When do the Potter’s Wheel Intro Classes take place?
Most Fridays and 1-3 Saturdays a month. Specific dates and availability are revealed once you start the booking process.
What do I wear?
The clay washes out and doesn’t stain but we always recommend clothes and footwear you don’t mind getting splattered. Pottery can be messy! Trousers and flat shoes are the most suitable. Shorts and sandals/flip flops are acceptable in the summer months.
What do I need to bring?
An apron and old towel/tea towel for drying hands and wheel head. Alternatively, you can hire an apron & towel bundle on the day for £5
How big is the class?
Maximum of x16 participants per session allowing for plenty of individual guidance and attention.

Is this class suitable for children?
This course is designed for adults and young people 16 + yrs. However, if you can get x10 or more people together, you’d qualify as a private group booking and these can be very much intergenerational. Check out our potter’s wheel projects for groups.
As a fun alternative to the potter’s wheel, younger potter’s will love our Clay Modelling sessions. They usually take place during the school holidays and are equally suitable for adults – a super creative pottery experience for all the family!
Are refreshments provided?
You’ll be so engrossed you won’t be able to consider anything other than the spinning wet clay in your hand. For those seeking pre or post pottery refreshment, there is an open air café called The Woodshed, a 5 minute walk from the Pottery.
Will I take a pot home?
At the end of the session you may (or may not!) have two pots to show for your efforts. You have three choices:
Have your creation fired and glazed for an additional £25. If you can’t collect it from the studio, you may need to consider P+P at £5 per pot.
Recycle your pots so the clay can be enjoyed again and again by our lovely customers.
Choose your favourite pot to take home and air-dry.

Is there free parking?
Yes! We offer plenty of free parking in the car park in front of the studio.
Can you bring a dog?
It’s best to contact us directly before bringing a dog into the workshop. It may be very busy and space to accommodate may be tight. We have however, had dogs join us during our 90 minute Introduction Class and our Day Course but we ask if our other guests are happy with this first.

Is this class suitable for total beginners?
The class is suitable for total beginners as well as participants who have experience. Everybody works at their own personal level.
You’ll be treated to an informative and entertaining potter’s wheel demonstration. We explain the process in five, easy to understand steps. We move through the five steps altogether, as a group, advancing only to the next stage when everybody’s in a good place. You get two goes each and we encourage you to swap over in between goes.
Plus…. we have a lot of fun, learning loads along the way!
