A tile panel for all seasons

We’ve had the pleasure of working with the children and staff at Ivington C of E Primary School in North Herefordshire for decades.

Community hub

The School is situated at the heart of the village and has been nurturing and educating local children for well over 150 years. It has strong community links and prides itself on it’s family atmosphere and caring ethos.

A long standing creative partnership

We’ve lost count of how many times Jon has visited the school but whenever he’s there, he’s always been struck by the warm welcome and the prevailing caring and supportive atmosphere. Every where you turn there is ceramic evidence of their creative partnership. The walls are adorned with huge, whole school tile panels. Look outside and you’ll spot collaborative 3D terracotta sculpture poking out of flower beds and forest school areas.

This wonderful tile panel (above) reflects the four seasons and was created by the whole school in a single day. Each child contributed to the overall effect by making and painting their own individual clay tile depicting aspects of their chosen season. The tile panel is mounted on an exterior wall facing into the village for passers by to admire.

The first project

Featured below is the very first collaborative tile panel Jon produced with the school in 2005. The giant panel is in the shape of the school logo and each child on roll at the time made an individual tile reflecting one of the school’s core values: Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness Love, Self Control and Joy. It still hangs, pride of place in the main entrance hall.

Collaborative mosaic style tile panel made by all the children at ivington primary school herefordshire and jon the potter from eastnor pottery. Each child has created a tile each. The whole panel is terracotta with small areas of blue and white. It is in the shape of a broad arched window. The words Reaching together fill the arch.

These collaborative tile panels make wonderful projects to celebrate or commemorate an event or special date in the school calendar. If you have an approaching anniversary, or just want to celebrate your schools creativity and culture, we’d be delighted to discuss your ideas.
