Sisters are doing clay

Local WI make pottery coil pots and potter's wheel pots at Eastnor Pottery We’ve entertained a few WI groups at the Pottery recently.

Groups of 10 or 12 women have visited the studio in the Autumnal gloom to get creative with clay.

These ladies from West Malvern WI were the latest group to visit on Wednesday evening to make coil pots and each take a turn on the potter’s wheel. Most of them had never experienced the potter’s wheel or even touched clay since leaving school.

They had a great time and were positively beaming at their pottery achievements. Well done ladies!

Hard to shake!

Pottery mans face made by a customer at Eastnor Pottery & The Flying PotterWe usually start a session in a school with a discussion about the many uses of clay and pottery. When posed with the question “what objects do you think of when you think of pottery?” the children’s answers are predictable – mugs, cups, plates, bowls…. etc. Not so at Finstall First School in Bromsgrove! A YR4 had us in stitches with his answer “old people!” lol

NFU working the clay

Clay tiles made at eastnor pottery by nfu west midlands as a team building exerciseNo less than five counties, agricultural speaking were represented at Eastnor Pottery on Monday.

The West Midlands region of The National Farmers Union took turns on the potter’s wheel and made a fantastic coat of arms depicting agricultural aspects of Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire.

Once the crest has been fired, glazed and mounted it will hang in the organisation’s office in Telford, serving as a permanent and creative reminder of their team day at Eastnor Pottery.

The Enormous Turnip

Young girl learning to make pottery on the potter's wheel at Eastnor PotteryChildren’s potter’s wheel workshop sessions in the ½ term Holiday – 25th October 2017

As October half term rapidly approaches, we are delighted to announce details of our fun and creative children’s pottery workshop sessions planned for Wednesday 25th October.

The tale of the Enormous Turnip will provide the autumnal inspiration with participants each taking a turn on the potter’s wheel to make a trug for their root vegetable.

Instead of pulling handles, the children will ‘pull’ turnips from the earth! ;)

One at a time, they will sample the delights of the potter’s wheel, taking their little pot back to the table to be filled with hand-modelled Autumnal fare.

The children will be using terracotta clay and their fired creations will be ready for collection from the Pottery approx. one month later.

Sessions are designed for two age groups although younger and older siblings will never be turned away: 11.30am-1pm 4-8YRS and 2-3.30pm 9-12YRS. Places cost £15 per child with a 10% discount for x3 or more places booked. Telephone or email booking essential. 01531 633886 admin@eastnorpottery.co.uk
