Be Creative
Create a bowl or vase on the potter’s wheel under the expert guidance of celebrated studio potters Sarah Monk and Jon Williams. Recycle your efforts or select one fabulous creation to away on the day to paint at home. Alternatively, for an additional £20, leave your masterpiece with us to be dried, fired and glazed. Once they’ve emerged from the kiln approx. one month later, we’ll drop you a line to let you know they’re ready for collection from the Pottery. P+P can be arranged at £5 per item.
Everybody can do it:
There are no mistakes in pottery – just happy accidents and learning experiences. The positive, inclusive nature of the instruction means everybody can join in the fun and achieve amazing results.
What to bring with you:
Please wear old clothes and foot ware you don’t mind getting a little splattered in clay.
An apron and old towel. Alternatively, you can hire an apron and towel bundle from us at £5 per person. (Couples are welcome to share a bundle between them)
This is how it works:
On arrival you will be guaranteed a warm welcome from your professional pottery hosts. Once you’ve had the chance to ‘apron up’ you’ll settle down to watch a potter’s wheel demonstration from your assigned potter. Then it’s down to business.
You’ll each have two goes on the potter’s wheel. Your expert potter is present throughout the experience, gently talking you through the five steps to making a pot. You certainly won’t be bored waiting your turn as the activity makes for a great spectator sport. You’ll have so much fun watching each other, all the time picking up handy tips from your instructor.
The whole experience lasts 1.5 hrs. You may end up with two pots…or you might not! but at this point you’ll be offered one of three choices: 1) We’ll recycle your attempts so your clay can be enjoyed again and again by our lovely customers. 2) Select your favourite pot to take away and paint at home. 3) For an additional £20 per pot we’ll fire and glaze your creation. If you go for option 3, your masterpiece will need to dry thoroughly before it goes in the kiln. It will be fired twice. This whole process takes about a month, after which we’ll contact you to let you know it’s ready for collection from the Pottery. P+P can be arranged at £5 per item.
Class sizes currently no larger than x14 participants.
