family of potters learning how to make pottery at eastnor pottery

As one might expect, the group size we entertain here at Eastnor Pottery has shrunk somewhat in 2020. Where as we regularly worked with between 12 – 20 people in one sitting, recent parties haven’t exceeded anymore than x6 participants.

We are chuffed to report despite the small participant numbers, the quality of what we offer remains consistently high.

Take Arjun and his family for example.

These guys spent a weekend in Herefordshire celebrating dad’s special birthday. They walked the Malvern Hills, ate out and finished up with our Introduction to the Potter’s Wheel.

Arjun wrote a five star review – Thanks Arjun!:

“We booked Jon’s pottery experience to celebrate our father’s birthday. From the moment we arrived Sarah & Jon were both very accommodating and friendly. None of our group had any previous experience with pottery but with Jon’s guidance (and patience!) we all made some pots which we could be proud of! Overall, I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who is thinking of trying something different and wants to do a group activity during a weekend break.”

With all the usual honeymoon destinations beyond reach, a lot of newly weds are opting to spend their post wedding days holidaying right here in the UK.

Emma and Neil are no exception and spent their mini-moon touring the country, stopping off in the Shire to indulge in a spot of pottery!

We wish them a long and happy marriage :)

Did you know that clay is infinitely recyclable? It’s been on the earth some 66 million years drying out and re-hydrating unchanged in nature. It’s only when it’s fired in the kiln it makes an irreversible change. Pottery or ceramic is probably one of the most permanent and durable materials known to man. Once they are out the kiln, they are out there forever!

It’s one of the reasons we ask our one day and weekend potter’s wheel course participants to be selective of their freshly made booty. At the end of the workshop, participants get to choose up to three creations to be fired and glazed. Surplus pots are ceremonially plucked from their resting places for recycling.

Must say it’s not very often we get such a neat pile of rejected pots! #neatlyfolded

Hen party season is definitely upon us with groups of happy hens beating a path to our door. Saturday was particularly busy with no less than four separate groups of gals getting creative with the squidgy stuff.

Some of the groups made pots on the potter’s wheel whilst others made and painted clay sculpture – most of it pretty tasteful!!

If you’re a celebrating hen looking for a #henpartywithadifference then why not book your weekend in gloriously idyllic Herefordshire. We have a selection of projects/prices and a beautiful Potting Tent marquee decked out in fresh flowers, bunting and fairy lights. Why not take a gander at our expanding list of accommodation providers here on our website some of them specialising in large groups and hen parties.
