antique door lock at eastnor pottery

antique door lock at eastnor potteryWhen we were offered ‘Clock Tower Cottage’ on the Eastnor Castle Estate as our artist’s studio in 1993, there had been little change to the interior since the day it was built. The Estate installed electricity and running water to enable us to make our ceramics, but apart from that, the decor was untouched.

Fast forward to 2020 and pleased to say things are pretty much the same! It still has the crumbling but authentic, wattle and horse-hair lime plaster on the walls, hand-made nails in the beams and of course, the original door latches and locks.

Just look at the size of the mechanism on the front door!

Last year, our friends at Roger Oats Designs purchased Introduction to the Potter’s Wheel pottery experiences as Christmas presents for all their staff. What a lovely, thoughtful idea!

What with Covid-19 and everything, its taken a while for the team to access their presents. We’re pleased to report on a sunny Thursday in October, the gang finally made the short journey to Eastnor Pottery to spin some mud and have lots of fun.

The staff visited in groups of x4 and were treated to a potter’s wheel demonstration before taking turns to make pots. As you’d expect from such a creative bunch the results were pretty amazing with a variety of shapes and forms.

Here’s what they had to say over on Instagram:

“Thanks for having us @eastnorpottery. One very happy team! Looking forward to the next visit”

“Thank you for a fab afternoon”

“It was a super afternoon, highly recommended, thank you”

“Great fun, thank you!”

Postponed experiences

Genuinely so so sorry we’re not going to be able to welcome you to the Pottery in November :( If you have an Introduction to the Potter’s Wheel Class or Potter’s Wheel Course scheduled for the Lockdown period, please rest assured your experience is safe with us and we look forward to meeting you when you are able to visit – no matter how far in the future that might be.

Pots in the post

If you were able to visit us in the Autumn and paid P+P, we are still intending to post your creations out to you during Lockdown. It may take us a little longer to process your work but please be patient and we’ll email you once they are on their way.

Collecting finished pots

We’ve been operating a non-contact collection system which has worked brilliantly! We’ll continue to use this system once your masterpieces have emerged from the kiln. Again, as our staff have been furloughed, it might take a little longer but we will message you with instructions once they are ready.

And finally…

Although we are currently unable to make pots with you lovely lot, please consider our Potter’s Wheel Experience Vouchers. Christmas is just around the corner and what better way than to treat a loved one by gifting the gift of pottery making!

Stay safe & take care.

Pottery family fun in the October half term

CORE STRENGTH!

27 & 28 October 2020

Herefordshire is the rightful home of apples and apple products. During the coming months, food, cider and juice producers are getting behind a county wide campaign to promote their products and services. The campaign is called ‘Apples for autumn’ and we’ve been inspired to take part.

During October ½ term, families are invited to indulge in a little bit of apple-based clay modelling fun here at the Pottery.

CORE STRENGTH is the project title and participants of all ages and abilities get the opportunity to fashion a ‘superhero apple’ using soft clay. It could be a kung foo kicking Granny Smith or an alluring Pink Lady super spy – anything goes!

The creative fun doesn’t stop at the clay modelling, oh no, families get to paint their apple superheros with coloured underglazes and slips too.

The apples will need to dry thoroughly before they are fired and glazed. This whole process takes about a month and participants will be contacted once their pottery has emerged from the kiln. If they are unable to collect their pottery masterpieces, P+P can be arranged at £5 per person.

1.5 hr sessions commence at 9.30am, 11.30am and 2pm and places cost £20 per person.

Pre-booking is essential, and places are limited due to the rule of six and social distancing. Children must be accompanied by a fee paying, participating adult. (Sorry no spectators or helpers!) Please visit www.eastnorpottery.co.uk  to book online. Alternatively you can contact the Pottery Tel: 01531 633886 or email: admin@eastnorpottery.co.uk to secure your places.
