When we tell people we do pottery hen parties they usually respond with something like “ Ooo I bet they make some interesting shapes!!” On the contrary, our group sessions are usually civilized affairs, filled with creative arty types enjoying the therapeutic benefits of modeling and throwing clay on the potter’s wheel. in fact, if you are doing pottery as your hen party activity then you are going to be a certain type of girl! That was until we met George and her party of merry gals….
There were only seven of them, but what they lacked in numbers they more than compensated with frivolity and laughter. We had so much fun!
They ladies appeared in Chesney Hawkes masks (a personal hero of bride to be George) and took to the wheels with enthusiasm, reveling in the comedic possibilities of centering the clay!
In amongst the hilarity the girls really got to grips with their technique with one of the more skeptical members at the start, thoroughly enjoyed herself commenting ‘That was great, I really really surprised myself”
The session concluded with the ladies treating us with a rousing rendition of Chesney Hawkes’ I am the one and only’ – a short clip can be found here. Everybody heralded the afternoon a resounding success.
If you are planning your wedding in 2019 and looking for a thoroughly creative and unique group activity, then why not book a session for your hen party. Take a look at our pottery hen party page and drop us a line email@example.com or tel 01531 633886 to check availability.
People of all ages celebrate their birthdays with us here at Eastnor Pottery & The Flying Potter.
Helen and her family opted for our 1.5hr shared potter’s wheel experience to mark her 30th. The six adults took turns on the wheel, each person making three or four pots. Those resting from the wheel offered words of encouragement or simply giggled at their potting partners, wrestling with the spinning clay. One thing was certain, and everybody agreed, the activity made for a great spectator sport!
We’ll fire and glaze the party’s pots ready for the group to collect in a month’s time, the ceramic keepsakes serving as a permanent reminder of Josie’s special day.
A lot of our lovely hen party groups opt for our 3hr ‘Deluxe’ potter’s wheel experience. As part of the package, the group make a collaborative artwork as a permanent memento for the bride to be of her celebrations at Eastnor Pottery.
The artwork is usually themed and we encourage participants to clay-model an anecdote about the hen, to be added to a large clay form. The addition can relate to any part of the hen’s life and can illustrate almost any story or personal attribute.
We love the stories that emerge as we construct the ‘story pot’ and the activity works wonderfully as an ice breaker, particularly if the girls are not previously acquainted.
Chief hen Philippa (pictured above) made a fantastic clay bee to symbolise her fascination, as a child in catching bumble bees in her bare hands!!! Once Philippa’s hens had completed the collaborative masterpiece, they all took turns on the x5 potter’s wheels we’d prepped for their enjoyment.
Everybody had a fab time and the experience is documented in photographs right here.
