Our philosophy is firmly rooted in the Reggio Emilia approach which doesn’t impose ideas on the children but provides a creative environment and framework for them to explore and develop their own ideas. If you are seeking a ceramic, permanent outcome you can be assured of professional and stunning results.
The Benefits
Collaboration
Workshops often involve the children working together to produce a collaborative piece. This approach nurtures respect for each other’s contribution and a sense of shared ownership and pride in the final work.
Self-esteem
There is no such thing as a clay mistake! The positive nature of our approach encourages participants to feel good about their creative decisions – particularly those who maybe don’t achieve in other areas of the curriculum.
Creative fun
We place a considerable emphasis on having fun whilst learning. If children are engaged and enjoying a technical demonstration, they are more likely to remember steps and skills required to successfully create their pottery. We strive to make our interactions with the children both memorable and entertaining.
Versatile
The workshops don’t have to be art & craft led. Clay can be incorporated into all aspects of the curriculum. Whether it’s a ‘changing material’ in science or constructing an ancient dwelling in history, the potential for a theme is infinite.
Fired results
Jon can transport the work back to his studio for firing, glazing and boxed ready for collection 4-6 weeks later. The permanent nature of fired ceramic makes for an excellent keepsake or reminder of a fun and creative school day. Childhood memories and family heirlooms are made of this!
Home or away
Jon will arrive on time at your school, fully equipped with potter’s wheel, tools, materials and bags of inspiration. Alternatively, you could visit Eastnor Pottery on the beautiful Eastnor Castle Estate to work. The studio can accommodate up to 25 children at a time and has a lawn area for picnics (great for a summer term outing!)
