‘Convertible’ is the all-encompassing theme and young participants will get to model a grand, open-top carriage with HRH Elizabeth perched inside…..or for those weary of the diamond celebrations, a sports car with the roof down or even a vintage vehicle with a be-goggled racer at the wheel!

Part of the making process will include a go on the potter’s wheel, which is always a firm favourite with visitors to the Pottery.

The 1.5 hr workshop sessions are designed for two age groups, 4-8yrs on Wednesday and 9-12yrs on Thursday (although younger and older siblings will never be turned away.) The fun starts at 11.30am & 2pm on Wed and 11.30am on Thursday and the cost is £15 per child with a 10% discount for x3 or more places booked. Places can only be reserved by telephoning 01531 633886 or email: admin@eastnorpottery.co.uk

Once the Children’s creations have been given a stunning, terracotta firing, they will be ready for collection from the Pottery three weeks later.

The young women certainly weren’t short of imaginative ideas and there was plenty of creative chatter as they discussed what to make. After debating the merits of collaborative plates, tiles, mugs etc the group settled for a large collaborative jug, covered in commemorative detail. They also made a multi coloured set of coasters for the bride to be’s new marital home in Canada.

The 1.5 hr session flew by and it was soon time to gather on the sunny Pottery lawn for photos and to admire their handy work. Fantastic work ladies! You can view the photos from the workshop on our Facebook page.

New for the Summer season 2012 – Drop-in Summer Saturdays at Eastnor Pottery!

Over the May Bank holiday we thought we’d try and encourage visitors to Eastnor into the Pottery by offering a range of clay activities without the need to book in advance.

The pilot was extremely encouraging and as a result, starting from the 19th May, we are going to open our doors every Saturday through the Summer, inviting passers by and families to drop-in and try a bit of pottery.

We’ll have a menu of exciting projects availible between the hours of 11am & 4pm suitable for adults and children and ranging in price from £5-£20.

The children had a regular horse riding session in the morning and then called by the Pottery for a clay workshop in the afternoon. A rare break in the wet weather allowed the group to picnic on our lawn in glorious sunshine.

The students were treated to a coil-pot demo before getting stuck into the technique themselves. They made some wonderful objects including an elephant, mug and my favourite, this owl.

Here’s what Carol, arts co-ordinator had to say about the children’s responses to the fired work:

“Just wanted to tell you what a buzz the kids had today when they came to name their animals! The Art Exhibition looks wonderful with work up by every child in the school. The overwhelming feeling from all was that the glaze makes all the difference and a step beyond the normal primary experience of clay! We put out all the Roman Soldiers too and they look stunning! There was another picture in the press of you and a couple of kids. Thank Gemma for doing such a great job wrapping up the beasties. All safe and sound.”

Read what the Gloucestershire Echo had to say!

Myself and a few other creative practitioners were there to offer a little light entertainment for a group of Herefordshire head teachers, before they sat down to dinner. Julie, head at Ledbury Primary School and pictured above was the first brave soul to throw a pot on the potter’s wheel. She set the bar very high indeed with everybody else achieving an equally amazing standard of success.

Also on the bill ‘The Fetch Theatre Company’with an assortment of totally awesome puppets created by creative director Purvin. Check out these examples of his work.
