Hens making hens

Hen party pottery participants relax in the Pottery garden in EastnorOnce these ladies had been shown the pinch pot demo there was no ceiling on their inspiration and ideas.

They collaboratively settled on making a clutch of hens for the bride to be, each one an individual masterpiece echoing the maker’s own personality.

We got the impression the ceramic hens would be displayed on the tables at the wedding reception making for some excellent centre pieces and conversational talking points!

Washwood Nursery staff CPD

Fantastic pottery strawberry created by an early years teacher from BirminghamAlthough I’m a regular visitor to Washwood Heath Nursery School in Birmingham, I’m delighted when groups from the School come and work with me on the Eastnor Castle Estate. So far this year we have welcomed a mini-bus full of parents and last month, staff came and learnt about clay techniques as part of their INSET.

Loving this strawberry made by one of the participants.

Winterfold House School

YR1 children from Winterfold House School worked with Jon the Potter from Eastnro Pottery in Herefordshire to make this collaborative clay sculpture based upon the book Handas SurpriseSpent a lovely day working with YR1 and Reception at Winterfold School in Worcestershire.

The book Handa’s surprise provided the inspiration for YR1’s creations with the children making a collaborative fruit bowl filled with fruit and animals from the tale.

Reception had been looking at The Three Billy Goats Gruff and opted to make pottery trolls as well as decorating a superb  pot made on the potter’s wheel. Big thanks to the staff who made me feel most welcome.

I was fortunate to sample a school dinner at lunchtime – the banana mouse a particular stand-out moment of a most enjoyable day!
