clay dinosaur made by child at Washwood Heath Nursery SchoolThe children’s picture book Harry and his bucket full of dinosaurs provided the inspiration for my most recent clay adventure with Washwood Heath Nursery School in Birmingham.

The children’s pottery skills and creativity develop at an alarming pace and at this point in the academic year, I like to challenge their making skills. I’d initially planned an activity cutting and assembling clay slabs but changed at the last minute as they were obviously enthralled by the teachers reading of the story book.

So we rolled coils of clay and constructed a clay bucket filled with the children’s hand modelled dinosaurs. Pictured left, a magnificent Brachiosaurus.
